Consumers Predict Behaviors for 2021

The latest wave of our ongoing study with OpinionRoute  was released today. Study respondents predicted behaviors for 2021, indicating increases in supporting small and local businesses in the coming year, plans to eat healthier, and increasing meals prepared at home. Areas with less predicted activity include bigger ticket items, such as shopping for entertainment items and furniture.

Key findings for the week of December 14: 

  • Twenty-five percent of Americans predict that they will buy more groceries in 2021, 21% more clothing, and 20% more household decor and goods.

  • Americans also predict changes in dining habits and behaviors in 2021, with 40% planning to eat more healthy, 38% planning to dine in restaurants more, and 33% planning to prepare more homemade food.

  • Small businesses are likely to see a boost in 2021, with 38% of consumers predicting more patronage of local businesses, and 34% more likely to shop at small businesses.
